About Me

(For a complete list of my credits, please click the link to view my Professional Resume)

My experience in the arts in wide and varied. At the age of 11 I began a ten year attachment with the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield, where I continued to perform whilst studying for a degree in Psychology. I sealed my formal Arts training at East-15 Acting School London with an MA in Acting, followed by work experience at The BBC, and specific courses in the dynamics of voice and presenting for camera at The Actors Centre, London.

I have worked professionally for many years and in several countries, including live and recorded film, radio, theatre (musical and dramatic), commercials, and presenting. Throughout 2007 I was working in Kuala Lumpur, having gone out to perform in a large-scale musical, and then staying on due to additional demand in film, commercial, and live events presenting.

In 2008 I travelled to Vancouver, Canada, where I undertook voice-over training with vocal coach Tony Alcantar, 'Comedia dell'Arte' with Cirque de Soleil's Gina Bastoni, and Authentic movement with acclaimed dance therapist Tannis Hugill.

I am a strong supporter of having an active body and active mind, and previously trained as an ice-dancer, performing in shows and solo dance competitions. I am accomplished in many styles of dance and have worked and performed with ‘Phoenix Dance’ of London, as well as ‘Sokoba’, an African contempary dance company.

As well as performing, I am heavily involved in using the arts for both education and therapeutic benefits. Combining techniques of actors with psychological theories, I work as a free-lance performance coach for actors and non-actors of all ages, including vocal confidence, dance and movement therapy, and most notably theatre in eductation. In Kuala Lumpur, my classes evolved into a working company, the aim to drama to enhance personal, social, and educational development. Blubricks is currently based in Kuala Lumpur, and specialized courses in the Arts and personal development operate nationwide.

A qualified psychologist and therapist, I currently offer private and group therapy and coaching sessions using a variety of traditional and expressive techniques, for a variety of mental and physical difficulties.

Blogged Projects (MAY 2008)

(MAY 2008) Since the start of the year I have been working in Vancouver, imrpoving accent technique with Tony Alcantar and studying the work of Headlines Theatre ('Theatre for Living', an offshoot of Boal's 'Theatre of the Oppressed').

At present I am in UK re-working a past production that I co-wrote/performed in London ('Choices'). In addition, I am aiding Newcastle based 'Xpose theatre company' in their upcoming project funded by the British Council. This will involve working with young people to help them produce original pieces of work, gaining inspiration from watching pieces of topical theatre.

On finishing these current projects, I will be returning once more to Kuala Lumpur, estimated to be there by the end of June 2008.

Executive Director of Blubricks and International projects

****************http://www.blubricks.com/*******************

In 2009 my students in KL represented Malaysia in Canada's 'Headline Theatre's' global project 'International Day of Action on Global Warming'. Set up by David Diamond of Vancouver based 'Headline's Theatre', this event took place in every continent around the world, and used theatrical techniques to discover what global warming means, how it is caused, and how we can make changes to save our planet.

Now as joint Executive Director of Blubricks (Kuala Lumpur), I am proud to bring in talented trainers and practitioners from around the world, as well as traveling to UK in order to bring back the latest skill-sets.

If you are interested in working with us in Kuala Lumpur, or collaborating in any way, please contact me at abigail_barragry@yahoo.co.uk
